My Story
I live with my husband Kelsey, golden retriever Copper, and our two cats Fiona and Fury, who are often the muse for my art. In my free time, I love to travel, camp, hike, listen to vinyl records, read, make homemade pasta, and garden. In the summers, I enjoy spending time at my family's lake cabin watercolor painting and boating. Most often, you can find me working out of my home pottery studio.
I would describe myself as an explorer, always ready for an adventure. Studying abroad in Florence, Italy during college was a transformative experience for me, opening my eyes to a world of possibilities as I had the opportunity to take in the art and food from some of the worlds' greatest artists and cultures.

I was born and raised in Carver, Minnesota. My passion for art was evident at an early age as I spent every spare moment drawing on anything I could get my hands on. When the paper ran out, I was known to leave a trail of drawings scribbled on the toilet paper down the hall of our house. In my mind, the recycle bin was also no ordinary place for garbage, but a treasure trove of items to be transformed. During those formative years, I developed a strong imagination and a healthy creative mindset. It taught me to view challenges as opportunities, and get excited about the prospect of problem-solving and experimenting. This curiosity for life is something I work hard to foster in the students that I teach.

My art career officially began in 2011 after graduating from Augustana University with a bachelors in Art & Education. While there, I discovered my passion for pottery. I then spent the next 10 years teaching Elementary Art in Harrisburg, South Dakota. I am now currently in my third year of teaching High School Ceramics, Sculpture, and Painting at Harrisburg High School.
What initially drew me to pottery as my primary artform was its functionality and accessibility in everyday life. Whether it's savoring a morning coffee from a handcrafted mug or admiring the gentle contours of a vase on a mantle, pottery enriches our everyday experiences with a sense of artistry and personal touch. My work is often inspired by my travels, experiences camping in National Parks, working at a northwoods camp, trips out to the Black Hills, and spending summers up in northern MN on the lakes. I find myself captivated by the wonder of nature’s harmony and its rhythmic textures and patterns. The inherent qualities of pottery—its earthy materials, organic forms, and glazes—enable me to transform nature’s marvels into tangible works of art. In each piece, I strive to evoke a sense of serenity, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate the subtle poetry of the natural world around us.
Being deeply rooted in tradition, pottery serves as more than just decoration—each piece facilitates communal connection and storytelling, resonating across generations. Raised around a family centered on farming, crafts of all kind, gardening/canning, and a grandmother that quilted beautiful quilts, I draw inspiration from these values of tradition, community, persistence, and attention to detail in my own artistic practice. When traveling with my husband, it has also been our tradition to pay homage to other artists by collecting a handmade ceramic mug from each place we visit. In this way, we create a lasting connection to that time and space as each mug holds memories and stories to be shared.
In addition to creating pottery, I explore many other artistic mediums including drawing, painting, jewelry-making, and fiber arts (macrame, weaving, and embroidery). I often create paintings and wood signs on commission. Being a teacher, I have to be a bit of a "jack of all trades" so if you have an idea for a custom artwork and want to ask me about a commission, I would be happy to hear your idea!
